WSOP 2009

The start of the 40th World Series of Poker is increasingly referred to in news, blog posts and other forms of online poker media.
The fitness challenge prop bet between Sorel Mizzi and Bertrand Grospellier for instance stipulates that the loser will have to give up 15% of his tournament winnings, for his next $300,000 worth of buy-ins. That tournament action is likely to take place at the WSOP.

The series will kick off on May 27th, with a Casino Employees NL Holdem event to which the buy-in costs $500. This will be the cheapest opportunity to acquire a championship bracelet, as various event buy-ins will all be at least $1,500 big.
The very next event (the 40th annual NL Holdem one) will feature a massive buy-in of $40,000. Almost every single WSOP event will be a 3 day one, except for the Casino Employees one (which is a 2-day event) and the Ante Up for Africa charity one, which takes place on July 2nd and last for only a day.

The $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, the world’s most expensive live tournament, and the one requiring the most complete set of skills, is yet again present on the schedule: it starts on June 30th and lasts for 3 days.
The series will take place at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and the crown jewel, the Main Event will once again have its final table pushed back all the way to November 7th.
