The EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final
Scheduled for April 28th – May 3rd, 2009, the EPT’s Monte Carlo stop is the culmination of the season. It features a Main Event with a buy-in surpassing that of the WSOP Main Event. Those who intend to participate will have to cough up €10,000 + €600, or they’ll have to show some serious poker skills in one of the online qualifiers offered by PokerStars.
Last season, the Monte Carlo Grand Final drew a huge crowd (the event is capped at 1,000 players) which included names like Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Erik Lindgren, Gus Hansen, Joe Hachem and Phil Hellmuth.
The 1,000 player cap was almost tested to its limit as no fewer than 842 players signed up for the event. That gave birth to a €8.4 million prize-pool, the biggest part of which landed in the pockets of Glen Chorny, a Canadian player who won his seat via one of PokerStars’ online qualifiers. He defeated Denes Kallo in the heads-up stage to walk away with the €2 million top prize.
The scene of this year’s venue will be the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort. The event will feature a special blinds structure, slightly different from that of the other EPT Main Events.
Monte Carlo, the glamour and glitz capital of Europe is an independent principality ruled by the same royal family for the last 700 years.
It is not only the home of the most famous of Formula 1’s stops, it is also the home of some of Europe’s and the World’s richest, on account of its relaxed tax system.
It is reachable via air, via train, taxi or car from just about any corner of Europe.
If you are a PlatinumStar VIP at PokerStars, you’ll be able to buy into the Monte Carlo Grand final directly, using your PokerStars W$. Those who buy in this way will be considered PokerStars sponsored players.
Why pay that much though when you can earn a seat for much less? Whip you poker skills into shape and get your seat for as little as $2.22 or 111 FPPs. The package you win this way includes much more than the buy-in itself.
It also covers your accommodation, and you’ll get $1,000 spending money too.
Satellites are already running at PokerStars (they started on January 5th). Just go to the PokerStars lobby and select ‘EPT’ in their ‘Events’ section.
