EPT Scandinavian Open, Copenhagen

Taking place between February 17th and 21st, the EPT’s Copenhagen stop is one of the most generous, most hyped and most popular live poker events in the Scandinavian countries. The buy-in is 50,000 DKK + 2,250 DKK, and there’s a cap on the number of players who will be allowed in. That cap is currently set at 500.

Season 4 of the Scandinavian Open was a resounding success and Scandinavians, who are regarded as some of the toughest poker players out there, were present in great numbers. There were 460 starters (a number which is quite likely to be exceeded this season), but in the end it was an American who stood triumphant and carried away the goods. These “goods” came in the shape of a huge prize as the whole prize-pool exceeded €3 million. Tim Vance, the winner went home a millionaire, after having defeated Denmark’s own Kristian Pedersen after what came to be the longest final table in the history of the European Poker Tour.

The 5th edition of the Scandinavian Open will be hosted by the Casino Copenhagen which is the only casino in the city. No special dress code applies, although sports-wear will be prohibited.

Over the 3 days of the event there will be several tournaments taking place: on day 1, there will be a DKK 5,000 event, as well as the Day 1A and Day1B legs of the DKK 50,000 Main Event. Day 2 of the stop will host a DKK 10,000 NL Holdem event and day 3 will host the Main Event Final table, as well as Day 2 of the DKK 10,000 event and a DKK 2,500 NL Holdem event.

Players will be able to buy into the Main Event directly, or to win their way in through one of the numerous online qualifiers offered by PokerStars, the main sponsor of the EPT. If you’re a PokerStars PlatinumStar VIP, you’ll be able to buy into the event directly for PokerStars W$. That however would rob you of the excitement of winning a seat in a prestigious not to mention lavishly prize-pooled event for as little as $2.22 or 111 Frequent Player Points.

The package that PokerStars will provide you with includes: the buy-in to the event, accommodation (the best available) and to top it all off: $1,000 you can spend any way you want to. Check out the events section at PokerStars for details on online qualifiers.
