PokerStars is widely recognized as THE destination for those looking for the best in online tournament action. The tourneys and freerolls offered range from the smallest buy-in ones to some of the most generous prize-pool MTTs on the planet. Their $1.5 million (Sunday Million) is a great example in this respect. Although in the beginning, skeptics reckoned it is a much too ambitious undertaking, one that the online poker industry might not yet have grown up to, PokerStars proved all these people wrong. Despite the initial difficulties the tournament has gone through on account of the high buy-ins it required, it eventually grew up to be not just one the most generous tournaments in the world, but one of the most popular as well.
Because of the number of people taking part in the Sunday Million, first prize always ends up bigger than $100K. This is how the Sunday Million makes one person’s dreams come true every week. The buy-in is $215, under normal circumstances, but on the last weekend of every month, $530 is required in order to contribute to a truly astonish prize pool. That’s not all though. Four times a year, in an attempt to satisfy even the greediest of high-rollers, PokerStars features tourneys with $1,050 buy-ins. Prize pools are gauged accordingly, of course. These buy-ins might seem prohibitive for most of us small-timers, but online poker is supposed to be about giving everyone a shot at big-time play, and PokerStars knows that better than any poker room out there (see Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer’s WSOP run). There are countless satellites and sub-satellites for the Sunday Million. The cheapest ones start from $3, and you won’t even have to wait around for one to start because they take run pretty much around the clock.
Another interesting thing about the $1.5 Million guaranteed is that PokerStars support staff members stand by to help those who make the final table strike a deal if they so prefer. Remember, this is high-stakes poker and deal-making is very much part of it.
