By now, we’ve gotten used to the fact that PokerStars has some of the most outstanding promotions on offer in the online poker industry. The World Cup of Poker is such a promotion. Players from different countries will come together in national teams and battle it out for the title of Poker World Champion, with much more than just national pride and glory on the line. Winners will be walking away with $250,000, and a ton of online and live play experience under their belts.
Here’s how the World Cup of Poker preliminaries work: PokerStars.com will act as the scene of series of freerolls meant to sift out the best players from each nation. Once the teams are set, Divisional and National Play-offs will commence, still online at PokerStars, to decide which of the national teams will get through to the finals. All in all eight teams qualify for the finals which will take place live, in Barcelona. The qualifying teams receive all-expenses paid packages for the finals from PokerStars and the event will be televised.
If you have anything further to ask regarding the WCP, don’t hesitate to drop an email to PokerStars customer support. The last edition of the WCP went to the U.S. team, who beat Romania, Canada and Iceland in the final four.
The team to rack up the most WCP titles in the event’s brief history remains Costa Rica, with consecutive wins in seasons I and II.
