PokerStars’ software is available for download on their site, free and without any obligation to deposit money.
The installation kit is 6.22MB big, it won’t be lengthy to download on anything but a dial up connection from the stone-age. Once installed, it’ll run on anything that has at least a 100MHz CPU and 64MB of RAM, so basically it will run on anything indeed.
Keep in mind though that PokerStars allows for an unlimited number of tables at which you can play simultaneously, and if you open too many of them, weaker systems may crash.
Upon clicking the “download” button, you’ll either be able to download and save the installation kit or you can run it from its current location. In that case, the wizard will have to download the whole client, and install the software onto your computer online.
When you run it, make sure no anti-virus software is active in the background and that your firewall is set to allow such traffic. If you do seem to run into problems in this respect, try to tweak your firewall manually, if you cannot handle it, either ask your system administrator for assistance, or contact PokerStars support: they’d be delighted to help. If you are a Windows XP user, chances are the “access blocked” warning will pop up and you’ll be able to allow access at the click of a button.
The most important part of software installation is the final step: the creation of a PokerStars account. You won’t be able to play without it. Don’t worry, the creation of the account doesn’t cost you anything, nor does it require you to make any sort of deposits.
Fill in the form with your details and do not enter a fake email address. After registration the system will send you an email with a verification code which you’ll need to re-enter at the room. Your account will not become active if you skip this last step.
